The Liberation Cycle is a community-driven bike charity dedicated to empowering people through access to reliable bicycles. We support individuals facing critical illness or financial hardship by refurbishing donated bikes and offering them free or at low cost. Every pedal forward is a step toward freedom, independence, and well-being.
We’re looking for hands-on, community-minded Volunteer Bike Mechanics to join our workshop team. Whether you’re a seasoned wrench-spinner or a hobbyist with a good grasp of bike maintenance, your skills can make a real difference. You’ll help restore donated bikes to road-worthy condition, support community repair events, and sometimes help others learn to fix their own bikes.
Inspect, repair, and service donated bicycles of various types and condition
Ensure bikes are safe, functional, and suitable for donation or sale
Maintain workshop tools and equipment
Assist with community outreach repair days, pop-up events, or donation drives
Support bike recipients with basic guidance and maintenance advice
Keep basic records of bikes repaired, parts used, and time volunteered
Basic to advanced knowledge of bicycle mechanics (training can be provided)
Comfortable using bike tools and working independently or as part of a team
Willingness to learn and share knowledge
Friendly, supportive attitude—especially when working with beneficiaries
Passion for cycling, sustainability, and social justice
Hands-on experience in a community-based charity workshop
Opportunities to develop your mechanical and teaching skills
The satisfaction of helping people gain freedom through cycling
A great community of bike lovers and change-makers
