Born from our love for Clare.
Liberation Cycle was founded by her husband, Antonio Mariconda, to turn the freedom she cherished into freedom for others.

Clare Louise Mariconda
24th June 1982 - 17th September 2023
Clare’s brain tumour shrank her world. Losing her driving licence made everyday life harder – shopping, visiting friends, stepping outside independently.
Her bike restored what the tumour tried to take. It gave her freedom, movement, dignity. Riding was her quiet act of defiance.
Antonio grew up hearing his father say this. Liberato arrived in England in 1961 as an immigrant, searching for opportunities his home could not offer. His first purchase was a bicycle. It carried him to work and, when hostility surfaced, gave him a way to leave. 1960s England was not always welcoming. His bike, he would say with a half-smile, kept him alive.
After Clare passed away in 2023, Antonio kept riding.
Each ride creates space – to think, to grieve, to steady himself. Clare had always encouraged him to get out on his bike, knowing that caring for himself allowed him to care for her. Liberation Cycle continues her belief.
We regenerate bikes to give others what Clare valued so fiercely – freedom, dignity, and the power to move forward.

At The Liberation Cycle, we have seen how access to a reliable bicycle can quietly change the course of someone’s life. It can mean getting to work, starting education, reconnecting with community, or simply finding space to think and breathe. Mobility creates options, and options create stability.
As a small non-profit, our work depends on the generosity of those who believe that freedom of movement should not depend on income or circumstance. If our mission resonates with you, please consider supporting us through a recurring donation or corporate sponsorship. Your contribution directly funds the tools, parts, and hands-on effort required to restore bikes and place them where they are needed most.
